A counselor is a client's true ally. Someone who is actively invested in understanding your experiences, emotions, and behaviors can be a powerful tool in helping guide you toward change. The genuine connection between counselor and client can foster a better understanding of self and lead the client to take charge of their own life path. I am honored to be some small part of a client’s journey towards fulfillment. To me, each person's differences make the world a more vibrant place. I hope to celebrate what makes each client unique and also build a connection to what makes us all human.
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with clients to help make sense of how our hearts and heads are reacting to the world around us. Therapy can be like a science experiment in which we treat identified life problems by gathering information, forming hypotheses, and strategizing solutions. I also use techniques of Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to aid the process of change. I believe that while it is not easy, we are capable of changing our behaviors, thoughts, and emotions with the right set of tools.
LICENSE, EDUCATION, and EXPERIENCE
As a Licensed Professional Counselor (#82663), I hold a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Memphis and a Masters of Science degree in Counselor Education from The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. My experience includes over 6 years of work in the mental health and social services field with college students, pregnant and parenting teens, in-home counseling in rural and urban areas, counseling at an eating disorder treatment center, and short-term crisis counseling.
How long does therapy take?
Some clients may feel relief or meet their therapeutic goals in just a few sessions, while other clients may require months or years to reach psychological wellness. Those with severe mental health disorders may benefit from lifelong therapy support. You and your counselor will regularly examine your goals and evaluate your improvement. Your counselor will help you decide when it's the right time to terminate treatment, but it's always your decision to end therapy at any time for any reason.
