My passion is in helping people grow, stop destructive behaviors, heal wounds, and learn to let go. I strive to build respect and foster a trusting therapeutic relationship by valuing each client’s unique beliefs, values, customs, and traditions.
Therapy is customized to meet each person’s needs and tailored to their appropriate developmental stage. For adolescents and adults, I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Psychoanalytic, Psychodynamic, and Existential techniques in my work. Children face unique developmental challenges and often struggle with emotions, behaviors, and family dynamics. I encourage strong family involvement in the therapeutic process and often utilize play therapy, floor time, and Family Systems approaches. Aiming to build understanding and teach practical techniques to solve problems, I teach children alternative actions to replace defiant behaviors and better coping skills for managing emotions.
Whether you need guidance to work through past trauma or support for a mental health condition, I hope to provide the help you, your child, or your family needs during this difficult season.
LICENSE, EDUCATION, and EXPERIENCE
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (#97034) and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with a minor in School Counseling from Northeastern State University and a Master of Education from East Central University. I am also a Certified School Psychologist, Certified School Psychometrist, and Certified Parent Child Interaction Therapist. For more than 15 years, I have provided therapy services to children, adolescents, and adults in private practice and school settings and have provided counseling & testing services in schools, the private sector, doctors’ offices, and behavioral health centers.Â
I enjoy spending time with my friends, grandchildren, and two grown daughters and adore the four years I spent fostering children. I love traveling, exercising, nature, sports, camping, and bike riding.
It's hard to see your child suffering and feel powerless to help. Your child may struggle with anxiety, behavior, self-esteem, academics, or fitting in with peers. Maybe your child is recovering from a trauma, parental divorce, or death in the family. We have trained professionals here to help.
Types of Counseling
What will my first therapy session be like?
After looking over your paperwork and informing you about confidentiality, you and your counselor will discuss your concerns, symptoms, personal history, and treatment goals. Your counselor will decide if they are the best clinician to meet your needs, and you will decide if your counselor is a comfortable fit.
