A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is a mental health professional skilled in diagnosing and treating individuals and families of all ages and socioeconomic classes. LCSWs are specially qualified by their skills in health, mental health, diversity, and social issues to work with vulnerable groups.
It takes at least 8 years to achieve the LCSW, making it the highest license in the social work field. Requirements include earning a Master of Social Work degree, passing a national exam, and completing employment and direct supervision hours.
LCSWs regularly undergo continuing education to maintain and grow their professional skills and offer services in a variety of settings, like agencies, private practices, community mental health, and hospitals.
